The PJ
Productions Radio Network premiered as one station in 2000, playing R&B,
Hip-hop, Jazz, Gospel and House music and was simply called PJP Radio. The
acronym stands for Paul Jackson Productions Radio
(father of the owner). In 2002 the first version of PJP Radio changed its
format to play Gospel only, all day, all the time. We began enjoying an
increased listening audience. After a year of only playing Gospel we
decided to reach out and see if we could get involved in more genres. The
Urban Station re-emerged and station names were changed. The Gospel
station was now called WBGS-The Black Gospel Station and the Urban station
was now called PJP Radio. After various website revisions (seems like once
a year) and reformatting of the flow of music on the stations, we began
gaining popularity. In an effort to connect all stations and separate the
radio part of business from the parent company
PJ Productions, The PJ Productions
Radio Division was formed. We were content with the 2 stations, but
figured there is still more people to be reached… in comes Smooth Jazz.
Now focusing on “at work listening” we started
a smooth jazz station at the end of 2004. Station names were changed again
to reflect the change. PJP Radio (Urban) became Urban Rhythms and the
newly formed smooth jazz station was named Smooth Jazz WPJP Radio. There
was always house music being played on the Urban station but to keep in
line with our new mission of creating a “at work listening” network, we
removed House from the Urban station and created a dedicated station for
that genre. Enters our 4th and last station. ‘R House Radio a
sub division of another of The PJ Productions
company's,
‘R House Records was created and
plays primarily mixes from our resident DJ’s along with mixes from other
local and national favorites. The name of the company was changed again to
give it more of an independent feel… The PJ Productions Radio Network.
The PJ
Productions Radio Network continues to get larger and becoming more of a
recognizable name with record companies, artists and households. We are
constantly looking to improve on our brand and increase listeners along
with revenue. We are currently working on expanding our peak listener cap
on WBGS-The Black Gospel Station (our most popular station) which will
allow for 500 listeners to enjoy the broadcast at one time as opposed to
the current 100 listener cap. This addition will need to be funded and
will bring about exciting advertising to help support the growth. We will
begin this summer traveling around the country to meet with our listeners
in the PJP Van! Please sign up to receive our newsletter on the home page
for more information and to stay up-to-date on the changes happening here.
